This Privacy Policy describes how Teacher's Pet (“we”, “us”, or “our”) collects, uses, and protects your personal information when you use our application and services (“Service”). We are committed to protecting your privacy in accordance with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.

1. Information We Collect

We collect information you provide directly and information generated by your use of the Service:

• Account information — your name and email address, collected when you create an account or sign in with Google.
• School information — the name of your school or organisation, if you provide it during onboarding.
• Usage data — pages visited, features used, and actions taken within the Service.
• Log data — IP address, browser type and version, operating system, and timestamps of requests.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Provide, operate, and maintain the Service
• Authenticate your identity and manage your account
• Generate AI-powered lesson plans and curriculum content
• Improve and develop new features
• Respond to your enquiries and provide support
• Send service-related notices (e.g. security alerts)
• Comply with legal obligations

We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

3. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate the Service. Each has its own privacy policy governing their handling of data:

• Stack Auth — handles authentication, including Google Sign-In. Your email and profile data are processed by Stack Auth.
• Google — if you sign in with Google, Google's authentication services process your credentials. We only receive your name and email from Google.
• Vercel — hosts the application and may log request data for security and performance purposes.
• Neon — provides the database where your account and curriculum data is stored, encrypted at rest.
• Google Gemini — used to generate AI lesson plan content. Curriculum context may be sent to the Gemini API to generate responses.
• Anthropic Claude — used to power AI features within the Service. Curriculum context and lesson planning data may be sent to the Claude API to generate responses. Anthropic does not use API inputs to train its models by default.

4. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored in secure, encrypted databases hosted by Neon. Data is transmitted over HTTPS (TLS). While we implement appropriate security measures, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security but will notify you of any breach as required under the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.

5. Your Privacy Rights (NZ Privacy Act 2020)

Under the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020, you have the right to:

• Access — request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
• Correction — request that we correct inaccurate personal information.
• Deletion — request that we delete your account and associated personal information.

6. Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. If you request account deletion, we will delete your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.

7. Cookies

We use essential cookies to maintain your authenticated session. These cookies are strictly necessary for the Service to function and cannot be disabled. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.

8. Children's Privacy

The Service is intended for use by educators and is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us immediately.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the “Last updated” date. Your continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
